3-Way Hydraulic Diverter Valves

3-way diverter valves are a critical component in many combination boilers. Hydraulic 3-way diverter valves, from the leading boiler component manufacturer, Giannoni, have a long track record in UK & European combination boilers.

The purpose of 3-way diverter valves in combination boilers is to direct the primary heating water to the domestic hot water heat source, in response to a domestic hot water demand. In most modern combination boilers, this is a stainless steel plate heat exchanger.

In hydraulic diverter valves, the instantaneous flow of domestic water through a diaphragm chamber, fixed to the top of the diverter valve body, directly causes the actuation of the diverter valve. This provides for rapid reaction time of the hot water generation and means the diverter valve does not rely on an electrical signal to switch the position of the valve.

The Giannoni range of hydraulic 3-way diverter valves has evolved over many years and has been extensively tested and proven, and has been specified by all of the major UK & European boiler manufacturers at some time. The Giannoni valves consist of brass bodies and brass and stainless steel internal components. The shaft seals have a sealed O-ring arrangement contained within PTFE bushes that also act as shaft scrapers to prevent or minimise seal leakage as a result of scale and contamination. The diaphragm chamber includes an EPDM rubber or silicone rubber (for special applications) membrane diaphragm, with a specially designed profile designed for long life over many operations.

The diverter valves have a variety of connection types and configurations to enable a suitable arrangement for any possible application within a boiler. There are a range of versions, some specifically suitable for direct coupling to Giannoni compact brazed heat exchangers. All models are assembled and tested automatically. Extensive life tests have been undertaken to prove the life of the valve over many 100,000s of operations.
